HISTORY

Between history and nature in the heart of Camprodon

History

Mas de Xaxas is located between the emblematic Carrer Freixenet and Passeig de la Font Nova, along which the exuberant Ritort river flows. Both are a clear urban example of the popularisation of the summer holidays of the wealthy classes, generally from Barcelona, since the 18th century.

In the first stage, the colony of holidaymakers from Camprodon was concentrated on this tree-lined promenade. Mas de Xaxas was one of the first villas to be built on Carrer Freixenet. It was built at the end of the 18th century and its structure has been maintained over time, except for its two towers, which have undergone several modifications.

On the promenade you can also find magnificent residences, such as the Pomar house, built by the architect Josep Vilaseca, author of the Arc de Triomf in Barcelona, or the Vincke house, in Alpine style, where the then Prince Juan Carlos de Borbón spent some time, given the Torrent family’s links with the Spanish Royal House.
